Most fads and trends in the fashion industry are kick started by some creative celebrities who decided to own a unique look. Most of them are a bit bizarre and soon go out of style (recall the time when having a pair of Michael Jackson gloves was a must for every young man) but others are so bizarre that they have qualified to be mentioned in this article!
Food clothing
- The most famous food clothing of all time has to be hands down Lady Gaga’s meat dress worn by the eccentric singer to the 2010 MTV Music Awards (shown above). The dress, designed by Franc Fernandez also came with matching accessories that included a meat handbag.
- The madness did not end there. Kate Walsh in an appearance at the Tonight Show by Jay Leno in 2010 wore a sushi and sashimi dress, which she said was a tribute to Lady Gaga. Katy Perry at the MTV Music Awards Japan had made a previous appearance in a fish outfit in 2009 where she wore a leotard embroidered with sushi.
- Jayde Nicole the 2009 Playboy Playmate of the Year wore a lettuce bikini while handing out lettuce hot dogs on Capitol Hill. This was an attempt to create awareness about veganism and vegetarianism. Other campaigners were also dressed in outfits made of leafy greens.
Other weird dresses
- Katy Perry was the first to wear an illuminated dress in the 2010 Met Institute Costume Gala where her colorful circuit dress ensured that all eyes were on her. Rihanna followed suit soon after wearing a black gown with tiny red lights all over during a stage performance at London’s O2 Arena. They were not the only ones implementing technology to their outfits though. Singer Imogen Heap accepted an award at the 2010 Grammy Awards while dressed in a gown that had its own Tweeter feed and displayed in real time Twitpics sent by fans.
- Bjork, a singer and songwriter from Iceland might have ruffled a few feathers with her Swan dress that was literally a swan draped around her body with its head falling over her shoulders to the front. Lady Gaga apparently had already began experimenting with outfits made up of weird materials when she rocked a purple gown complete with feathers and human hair to the Billboards 2009 Women in Music event
- Fergie decided to let her inner child out during the Kid’s Choice Awards in a dress whose external structure was completely made up of legos. They might have borrowed the idea of ‘building up’ a dress from Lizzy Gardiner who wore an outfit made entirely using gold American Express Credit Cards at the 1995 Academy awards. The dress was auctioned off for $12,650 in 1999 and the proceeds donated to the American Foundation For Aids Research.
- Kesha arrived at the 2010 music awards in a black dress made entirely from trash bags. She said she collected the bags from the Home Depot and put them together to create the outfit.
Strange accessories
- Not only do our celebrities put on strange outfits, they complete the look with weird accessories. Lady Gaga’s meat dress for instance came complete with a meat handbag and hat. She also just recently began wearing 12-inch heels and needed the assistance of two men to help her regain her balance once. In an interview with E! News she wore a pair of 12-inch heels adorned with her fan’s images
- Sara Jessica Parker on the other hand has a thing with bizarre hats. She wore an over the top hat complete with grass and butterflies at the SATC London Premier. She managed to steal the show at a hats only function in Australia with a huge spiral hat by the same designer.
- Weird necklaces also appear to be a celebrity fetish. Angelina Jolie is known to have worn a vile of blood around her neck as a necklace in her early acting days. Nicki Minaj wore a plastic ice-cream cone necklace, complete with brightly colored hair that had been styled to look like the cream to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. A few weeks later, she paid tribute to food once more by adorning a bright pink chicken wing necklace made by the same designer to the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

Instead of weird clothing, good looking and suave formal evening dresses should be the choice for many of these celebrities.
